Martros offers a 24/7 residential support service where Martros is the “Primary Care” giver. There is no greater Philosophical Base than that of Family/Whanau. Family/Whanau and the importance of this are entrenched in every aspect of care we offer. The service is family owned and operated by Bernadette and Ross who have four growing children they have nurtured, enjoyed and loved through all triumphs and tribulations life has offered them. While their ideas on the whys and wherefores of life do vary from time to time for the most part they have grown to understand and appreciate what the other has to offer. Both Bernadette and Ross believe that where Family/Whanau breaks down so to does the necessary structures for and individuals’ well-being. The stability of a family will be offered to all those in our care. Martros offers a “home” not accommodation. We offer “choice under guidance” not a dictatorship. We offer structure and warmth without fear or threat.
PHILOSOPHY OF CARE:
To provide a safe and caring environment where the individuals may reach their potential in all aspects of their lives. Such achievements will be supported by appropriately qualified and experienced staff. Care will be provided in the least restrictive environment as determined by the special needs of the individuals concerned. Martos firmly believes that anything is possible in terms of care. We must think “outside the square” and be prepared to alter our practices to meet the needs of individuals entering our service.
AIM: To support individuals to reach their fullest potential and achieve the maximum level of independence in a safe family/whanau environment.
Currently the people in our care present with varying needs and diagnosis. It is our firm belief that the challenges they encounter in their lives need to be viewed as positive rather than from the point of view of “disability”. Some examples of the special gifts our people present with are…
· Fragile X
· Aspergers
· Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
· Intellectual Disability
· Psychiatric Disability
Martros firmly believes that our commitment to focus on the positives is a major contributing factor in the successes we have achieved. All of the individuals in our care have previously struggled to maintain suitable placements and supports in the community. It is Martros role to support change where it is achievable and enhance the positives of what can not be changed in order to ensure the success of all placements.
